A good foodie friend recommended the Assheton Arms, in Downham, just outside Clitheroe to me for a special family occasion.
Everything about the evening was amazing. The venue, an old country pub with a warm fire, a mix-match of furniture, old stone floors and different areas like a rabbit warren. The staff were really friendly & helpful (customer service can make or break the best of meals), the wine was delicious, I sampled a few glasses of a reasonable priced red, Poco a Poco. And last but by no means least, the food. There was 16 people dining in my party so we had our fare share of the small menu. I always think fewer choices mean the chefs pay more attention to the details and flavours of the dishes. The specials change daily and there's a real emphasis on fish through the menu, as well as influences from travels to spain and indian and beyond.
I'd really recommend this pub to anyone.
